Identify these wires?

98 5.4L 4wd Expedition.
Pair of wires hanging just behind the driver's front wheel well, both going into a connection on the bottom of the floorboard.
One wire is white with a red stripe, and the other is black.
Ends are stripped and just hanging there.
Any ideas on what these should be connected to?

yeah. your step lights. you see that hole? thats where they go. you shouldnt have a light on your step then.

Thanks for the reply Panda24619, looks like you are correct.
The truck is my daughter's and she's in Alaska.
I'm in Tennessee.
So this is hard for me to troubleshoot just using text and pictures.
She at first thought that all of the running lights were working, but after checking again she says that side is not working after all.
