I'm going to be scrapping my EXPY, possibly looking for another.

my advice is to go slow trust your gut i bought mine in upstate ny last year look great!!!
3225$ lil old lady answerd the phone got to the house and saw three bondod up cars in the driveway. didnt really care got blinders. didnt do a good walk around. test drive was bad but i figured it was just the right side wheel bearing. well it was along with cracked exhaust manifold right side. thankfully it needed new tires as well because when i took the tire off the right front i found the rim had been bondod together. she was the sweetest lady i thought as i left. but now i know. Live and learn.

Either way take your time and you will find a great one they exist. i would be looking south tho just because of the rust issues up here

I know your very far away but Expeditions in California are a dime a dozen. They are cheap out here and you can get some serious great deals because of our $4.++ gas prices. I bought my 97 4x4 5.4 with 130k for $4k. Once i bought it, i put brand new plugs, coils, and filters. 4 months after buying it, me and my family (7 passengers total) drove from Los Angeles to Minnesota. It was a 6 day round trip and my Expy ran perfect the whole time. Not bad for a $4k truck. And I average 16mpg highway fully loaded!

fyi, my Expy doesnt have any rust at all. I think its the location.

I did buy one about a month ago. 2000 Black XLT with 155K on the clock.

I still haven't scrapped the white one yet. It does have a gray cloth interior. I have slowly been pulling the parts I need from it, but my schedule has been hectic and so it's mainly been sitting in the driveway.

you might look at a newer exped.
We run 09 Expeds at my Sheriffs Office and have had great luck with them.
The PD here in our county has Tahoes and they are pretty awesome too....and FAST

I have the usual cop stuff: cage, laptop mount, radio, siren box, printer, etc. and everything fits well.

My personal rig is a gen1 and I am in the process of wiring in a siren box, a few lights, radio, etc. What do you have left in terms of emergency equipment? Would you by chance have a push bumper for sale?

I bought my 98 with 204k miles four months ago and have tossed another grand into it already. I joined this forum, and have noticed a lot of "common issues" , will go back to foreign as soon as this one dies............ unless it does not need more repairs for the next couple of years ;)

Id stay with the 1st gen models.... bought my 99 EB 5.4L , 176k fully loaded for $3500... she runs like its brand new, no issues , rust etc... was very well taken care of... my roommate has a 99 suburban and he hates it, so my expy has changed my thought on gmc,chevy... all the same not many options... good luck on your find...

I think the later 1st gen models are the way to go. Mine is a 2001 eddie bauer wedgewood blue that has only had a ball joint wear out and has 108 k. She has held up great and always has been there to get me through 103 degree heat and the frigid temperatures of Wisconsin. She has no body rust and they def use a lot of salt here in Wisconsin. The under body has some corrosion but i am not surprised by that. A great truck to keep around and it makes a great first car!
