In praise of the Perelli scorpion AS Plus 3

Hello everyone, I put the Perelli‘s on back in November and half but 25,000 miles across Ohio Pennsylvania and New York and a lot of snow and wet driving.

I can say unequivocally these are the best all season winter tires I have ever driven.

The most impressive quality is there wet handling. These tires move water better then the turbines in the Hoover Dam.

The second most impressive quality is that they are nice and quiet on the highway when it’s dry.

When you’re looking for a set of terrific winter capable all season tires next fall keep these at the top of your list you won’t be disappointed.

This is good to hear. I just ordered a set. Tire rack recommended them over the Michelin premier LTX, which I have on at the moment. Said they are better in the wet, snow and quieter

Nice, I was looking at the same ones. Few posts on this forum about tires already. but good to hear a first hand testimony. I'm partial to Michelin Defender LTX M/S had them on an Explorer never got stuck, but always nice to have options.

I purchased my 2013 extended length king ranch in May of last year. When I bought it I believe it had Bridgestone tires on and it ran really smooth. I replaced them because they were shot and I put Perelli scorpion all-terrain plus tires on. They look really good on the vehicle but ever since putting them on I’ve had vibration at highway speeds.

I have access to a shop where my father-in-law works so I always mount and balance all my own tires. I’ve been doing that for years. These tires took a lot of weight to balance. I rebalance them a couple months later and that improved the vibration issue, but they still had a vibration. Based on my experience I would not buy these tires again. I may have just gotten one or two bad tires, but it’s very annoying to have that vibration when I know it was smooth with the previous tires.

I have the PS Verde AS II's and I am very pleased. Only fault is I get a slight vibration at about 85mph which seems to persist after rotation and rebalance.
Have Michelin's on my other cars. I would buy the Pirelli's again for my 2018 with 22"rims.

I have always been a "Michelin Man" but also recently went with the AT3s. Have had Scorpins in the past and was less than impressed but, the new design of the AT3 is a big improvement. Used in Rain, Snow, Dry, works well, quiet ride, good handling. That my 2 cents

I agree the Verde as3 are a huge improvement over stock.

I had the Pirelli Scorpion STRs on my truck when I first purchased it. Loved them in the rain and snow. Pretty good on the highway as well. A little soft in the corners, but not terrible. The big failure for me was treadlife. In less than 35k miles they were down to 2/32. I couldn't find anyone to prorate them; every shop kept telling me that Pirelli doesn't honor the warranty and would leave the shop to foot the bill. Finally, I got Sam's Club to prorate them and despite all the hassle, I went with the same tires again. In less than 35k I was back where I started. I went with the Michelin Defenders the next time around and the time after that. They're not as good in the snow, but better on the highway (where I do most of my driving anyway) and actually run longer than their rated treadwear. My wife currently has Pirelli P3s on her Honda (came with it) and they're not wearing well either. It would take a lot to convince me to ever buy another Pirelli. Despite being pretty good overall, the treadwear is just so, so bad.

I had a new set of Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 tires installed at the end of June in preparation for a couple road trips we had planned, one of which was towing a large boat from Port Clinton OH to Lake Cumberland (1,000 miles round trip), then a road trip to OBX (~1500 miles round trip). I had the factory Hankook tires still installed and the truck just crossed 50,000 miles when I swapped to the Pirellis.

My mileage has gone from 17.8 to 20.7 (!!!), they are much more quiet, and I wasn't as afraid of hydroplaning as I was with the Hankooks. I'm extremely happy with the tires so far, I'll update this post later this winter once I get a chance to see how they do in the snow.

I happened to catch the tires on sale at Sam's club - $913 out the door with two year road hazard. NTB wanted $1450 for a new set with no road hazard protection. Two weeks in to having these tires installed I managed to hit something that sliced the inside sidewall and Sam's replaced the tire for $20. Only painful part was that the tire(s) had to be ordered which took about a week.

When I was looking at my expy before I bought it, I immediately noticed three sketchy looking china “highway” tires that matched and a fourth that was in the same ballpark but obviously not a match. Told the dealer new matching tires were a must, and they just said “what do you want?” I told them Pirelli Scorpions because I wanted the 3 peak mountain snowflake rating. They happily put a set on.

Very pleased with them so far.

Got our first real snow today, so my first test with these tpmsf rated tires.

NOT impressed. In 2w drive slipping when starting from a stop. Rear end sliding out when turning onto side streets. In 4A I moved through an unplowed parking lot, but lots of asr activation. Also abs activated in routine braking.

For comparison, the Firestone ATs on my old suburban handled the snow without issue.

They are expensive compared to other tires so I would hope that they are of high quality. I may have to add them to my list of potential next tires considering this review though. Thanks
