I've had my '99 for a while now and just last night while waiting for fireworks I noticed that the interior and running board lights stayed on the whole time my hatch was open (kid were in the back). Is this normal for these trucks or should they turn off after a while like most other newer vehicles? I know it's a 99 but I had a 98 s-10 that had a timer on it.

next time you have the hatch open take a screwdriver and trip the latch to the closed position and that will cause the lights to go out. Just remember to unlatch when you go to close the hatch You will have to use the screwdriver and turn the handle to unlatch.
I am sure if you look at the latch you will figure out what you need to do.
