Is my front diff kaput?

Started having popping/grinding when turning. First suspected CV axles. Replaced the drivers side. Noticed it pushed out slightly on the differential side but thought nothing of it. A few days later and I've gone to do the passenger side and noticed it almost completely off of the output shaft on the diff. Decided to take a look back at the drivers side and the new one I just installed is pushed back out. Do they pop out when their bad and I just didn't fully seat the drivers side? Or am I looking at a bad front diff?

Did you lift the front off the ground and check wheel bearings for any play or IWEs', check or top off the gear oil?
