I typically use a USB connection between my iPhone and the USB connector below the media screen. When I do that CarPlay takes over. Without disabling CarPlay, the only way I have found to switch between the screens is to unplug my phone. Am I missing another way to switch between CarPlay and the normal media screen?

Thank you both! For asking and for answering. It's been a pet peeve of mine.

F*ck...I should have been able to figure that out. For some reason I though the Ford icon only updated any new software version when connected to WiFi.

I usually end up going with the equalizer button anyway because that gets you back to the ford sync interface regardless of where you are in CarPlay. As opposed to the Ford Icon on the CarPlay home screen. Just saves a button press.

That being said, it SHOULD be an actual button somewhere as opposed to a CarPlay home screen icon. But I guess it’s only for those using CarPlay so it’s not a button that enough people would use to justify creating a button for it.

I still haven’t found a way to re-enable Bluetooth while using CarPlay. We want to use the RES while charging a phone and have to disable CarPlay to make this work (the armrest USB port is permanently occupied so it’s not an option).

I found a new faster way to get to the home screen from CarPlay. I do this mostly to check outside temp. Not sure why I’m so interested in outside temperature so much lol.

A quick double tap of the volume/power button, but not too quick or it won’t switch. Music will stop but it comes right back on the second push.

My Ford icon is on the first screen and I’m usually on the second page using Waze so this is faster for my setup.

You can move Waze to the first page of CarPlay.

On your phone:
Settings
General
CarPlay
Sync
Customize

That will allow you to move the icons around on your CarPlay all willy nilly. As well as choose which apps show up on CarPlay and which don’t.

I just found an even faster way to get back to the last screen on the home screen (usually audio for me) from CarPlay. As long as you’re going over 5 mph you can hit the camera button and it will take you back.

Yesterday I tried using Siri to exit to the home screen, but I couldn’t figure out a way to make it work. When I asked her to “open Sync”, she told me she couldn’t do that while I’m driving. Apparently she doesn’t think we should use the Sync screens. She tells me to unplug the cable if I tell her to “exit carplay”. Two handed operation of unplugging a phone must be considered safer than her opening Sync.

Yeah...
Asking Apple to turn itself off to use a Microsoft product!? How dare you! haha...

I'm no coder but I'm pretty sure there are permission things/restrictions happening there that prevent them from truly talking to each other. The only information I have seen shared in any vehicle so far is in the Navi turn by turn arrows and distance to turn do show up on the HUD. The distance to destination etc do not work in the gauge cluster however. You would think that being on the same screen they are related but that doesn't seem to be the case. When APC or AA are connected they were designed to fully take over. In my Audi you get full google maps in the gauge cluster. If I'm using AA and navigating the map disappears and is not even accessible. Remember both of these companies have been fixated on attracting customers and forcing them to stay within their ecosystem (especially Apple). They want you using their streaming services not radio... they want you using their map apps not factory navigation etc etc...

That is my uneducated tin foil hat wearing guess though...

I think it is only a permission thing with carplay. There is already a button in carplay called “Sync” that does exactly what I want Siri to do which is exit to the sync screen.

RES?

I use a standard cable in a 12Volt Charger for my Wife in the passenger seat. When I don’t want CarPlay, but need to charge, I use that one. Cable plugged in to Ford USB - CarPlay, one plugged in to charger - No CarPlay but BT.

I use the cable depending on what I am going for. I do the non-CarPlay one much less now since I can run a separate app on the phone than CarPlay.
