So I looked and found Many posts saying to use the oem jack to raise the vehicle. I'm working on a brake line job and need to raise all the wheels. Will this be a good place to put Jack stands? Also, any ones have issues with reaching the oem jack points with a standard floor jack and running boards?

Thanks. a173c68d5b7a54de59ae454985ad3b41.jpg

They will be fine there.

The OEM jack - like all OEm jacks I ever used - is a nightmare to use, especially considering the height of the Expedition. If you're going to be jacking the vehicle up for repairs even a couple times per year, save yourself the headache and get a rolling jack.

I use those frame members, don't see how it could go wrong (oops, that philosophy has failed me in the past on other things). I go low and $$$ tech and use 2x10's and other lumber.

I have one of those jacks with the arm that moves at an angle and it relies on wheels rolling to self align, which doesn't happen too well … I hate that thing - I think Im gonna $hitcan it.
I probably don't know how to use it or its a cheap one (or both)?

I had to take an engine out of a 67 Chevy Van once many years ago. Had to raise all 4 wheels up an ungodly height because engine dropped down and out between the side doors.
Used cement blocks with a wood cap in each corner.

Forgot to include the picture. Updated post above. Seems like ford enjoys making it hard. My mother's 14 edge only Jack's with a pinch weld. There are even less flat spots on that. For now the brake line waits as I wait for the rain to pass.
Any other jacking suggestions for the front and rear?

Thanks.

I'm not understanding why the running boards preclude you from using that jack. The handle should go completely flat so you should be able to roll it right under the running boards.

I might be my own fault, now that you bring it up. I have to use boards under my floor jack to keep it from leaving wheel impression on the asfault. I'll use something thinner and try to pull down on the arm as far as it will go to slide under.

Thanks

Was that just three piles of blocks? I used four for my Econoline.
Could probably use two piles on the centerline.
I tried it with just one, but there was no good spot in the center of the vehicle.
Two was good until someone climbed into the driver seat.
Three saved me on purchasing additional blocks.

No … it's four.

My Dad did it for me when I wasn't looking, god bless his heart.
He kinda figured I might kill myself by accident. Dads are GREAT !!!!
That's him on the right watching out for me.

I think that's it. Get on some concrete or use 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood (OSB is weak). I always slide it under to the frame even on excursions 2wd which are a lot lower. You just have to use short strokes as you start to pump it up as handle hits running boards.

Thanks Toby. The rain stopped me for today. I plan to bleed all four corners as it lost a lot of fluid and it's 13 years old. So I plan on lifting it entirely on jack stands. Any good pointers for the rear?

Do you have to bleed brakes all four wheels at the same time or even 2 wheels at the same time. I thought you could just do one wheel at a time?

I'm sure I can lift each coner after doing the last, but it feels easier to raise it all at once instead of after bleeding each corner

Anyone use car ramps?

I use Rhino ramps w/ my wife's Mazda w/ jack stands as backup. For the Expedition I just go straight to the jack stands. The ramps alone would really serve no purpose for me in most instances w/ the Expedition.

I helped a buddy back in high school pull an engine from a 66 Chevy Van. We used a engine crane through the side doors. It was tight and we really had to choke up on the chain to get enough height to sneak it out. Wow what memories and stories your van pic brings back! He blew up quite a few engines in that van....... 350 4bl.,3 on the tree, and 4.11 posi with an electric fuel pump plumbed to the rear tires to pump bleach on them for a crazy Smokey burnout!!! Those were the days!

the engine went UP and into the cabin of the van then OUT the side doors?
wow, didn't know that was possible

I changed an engine in a VW bug once
dropped engine down and left it there on ground, picked up the entire car body and moved that leaving the engine sitting there
