I've searched the forums and learned a lot about this problem. My expy hard shifts into 2nd gear, not loud, but noticeable. I know that there are spring kits that are supposed to remedy this problem, but have any of you put miles on after installing the new springs? Did the problem get resolved, or did the transmission go out anyway?

I'm thinking of ordering the kit and am curious. I've only had the rig two days and this is the most concerning problem.

2001 4x4 5.6l I believe its the 4r100

Welcome, i have put the spring kit in mine as it was hard shifting into second as well. been about 2 months ,Worked great shifts nice and firm like new. When i installed mine i pulled the 1-2 shift acculator spring out in 4 pieces, so dont be suprised what you find in there. I used the trans-go kit for the 4r100, and used all the springs.
Heres the link to when i did mine.

Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I re-read your thread and ordered the transgo kit.

Hopefully it'll make it through the week until the kit gets here. Do people drive with this problem for a while?

Drove mine for 3 years doing it. I had it down to a science when to let off for it to shift right. If i knew it was so easy to fix it, would have done it a lot sooner.

I have a '98 Expedition 5.4 Eddie Bauer build date 12/97. Gee mine has been doing the hard 1-2 shift since 87k miles now approaching 230k. I've been pulling my foot off the gas all those miles and years. No one has even said to me the fix was easy as changing a spring. I believe I have the E40D...E code on door sticker. Anyone have any ideas on who should do the repair(transmission shop) or fair price for the repair?

Ha. The pcm in these is supposed to learn your driving style and shift accordingly. I guess we've been doing it bassackwards.
