Congratulations. There hasn't been an update in a while now. And there may never be another firmware update, but maps may keep being provided. I don't use maps. I prefer Google maps.

So the Cyanlabs update to 3.4 just make the interface look a bit more modern? Deeper blues etc?

Not just, as it has a lot of updated features and seems faster. But yes, the interface is much nicer looking. And the maps are a plus for some people.
My Son's 21 f-150 got all the latest updates through Ford. But, for me, they were not available, the first time I used Sync3. And right now, the latest SYNC3 Updates that are available through Ford, for my EX is 3.0.23219.

fwiw, I already had the 2 23 maps, and yes I primarily use Google Maps via Android Auto

I use apple car play maps and its amazing.
Yep, but for the service he provides, I could care less, has to pay for the hosting.
21 F150's are Sync 4, and get OTA updates. Different animal.
Just remember 2018-2019 can use Sync 3 Updater to get Map updates, but from 2020 On you have to be cautious, and follow the directions, because it can cause issue if you try to update certain versions of the Sync 3 APIM beyond 2020 with the method that Sync Updater uses for Map updates.
Several usability and performance updates also.
