Tired of spending big money on replacing failed Expedition window lift regulators???
I wanted to start this thread to collect possible ideas for developing a alternative solution for 2nd Gen Ford Expedition Window Regulators. If you have any idea for a solution to completely replace Fords paltry plastic insult to window lift technology to something worthy of having a Blue oval on it- Please chime in with your idea here in this thread, or even post your "Napkin Sketch" of a design. Just maybe one of us will use that info and design a unit to fix this dilemma once and for all. Actuators? Gear box? Scissor Mechanism?
Heck, even a way to cheaply re-wind a new cable on the spool. (Pictures of most common failure below).
It is obvious to me that this design was flawed from the start, most likely to create a common failure point for future sales of replacement parts. If you had a regulator fail, you were most likely as dumbfounded as me why anyone should have to replace almost the complete internals of the door for what usually is a lift cable failure. And the fact that you cannot just buy the cable part without buying the rest of the assembly. Serious waste of materials and money. It never ceases too amaze me how #1 -this design was ever thought to be reliable, and #2 -how this design was presented to be approved and someone at Ford signed off that it is acceptable.
Anyhow, this seems to be a ploy to make you give up on your Expedition when all of these plastic parts fail and then you want to go buy a new truck. Wouldn't Ford be surprised if we can find a way to keep these 2nd Gen Expeditions alive for another 20 years.
