Is it possible to mount lights behind the grill of a second generation Expedition? But I've only seen them on first generations. So before I order some 6" lights, for my bull bar, I wanted to know whether or not to order 2 or 4

theres a way. but you have to make up your own bracket. takes some time. i was going to show you how to do it on an f150 of the same "model". its almost the same so you can get the picture. but if i were you dont cheap out. get some good glass lights. i like kcs cause they are glass. some hellas are plastic, but some are glass. and pro comps are good too, but pricey. if f150 would ever load up for what ever reason that sites always down i would post the link, but i cant right now. sorry.

I did mine on my 1st gen and I just attached them to the plastic piece behind the grill.

same. works good. but i think the light output isnt what it should be. idk. i think ive been to the desert to much and keep wanting hids. haha it was completely dark where we were camped and no jeeps or anything around. and this truck with his heads fogs and 4 on the bumper and 6 on the rack all had hids drove by. you could litterly see everything!!!! it was AMAZING! i want to do that! haha

IMO hellas are the best bang for the buck... glass lenses and plastic body... virtually indestructible... mine are going on 2 years and no rust or problems.... have had KCs... 5 on my old f150 and procomps.... hellas have been the best so far up here in the rust belt of NNY

dont blame you. my screws are starting to leak rust. but since they are behind the grill i cant complain. when i go to convert them to hid ill paint them black. should be funn. tape up the glass and get to work sanding and primer and flat black... thats what i got laying around, then clear!

what do you need to know? what kind of driving do you want to do with the lights? off road or just added lights? flood, pencil, fog, driving, what kind of beams. mainly why do you want them? looks? then go with something basic like 500ff driving lights. if your doing off roading then get some kc daylighters or slim lights 100+ watts.

If you do it.......HID them bastards!

Here's a write up I did last night on HID install in a set of Hella 500FFs

This is the second set I've done, figured I'd do a write up on it.

Stuff needed:

Hella 500 (or 500FFs), H3 HID Kit (6K Economy Kit from Retro-Solutions used for this set). boxes on top are strobes that I installed on these too.

Back of Hella:

Remove the screw at the bottom, pull out the glass housing:

Take the bulb out, as well as the holder:

Test fit bulb:

Drill 1" hole right over the HELLA label.

Put the bulb in, smoosh the holders down

put the grommet on:

hahaha

I had a set of cheap off road lights on my old truck - I could fit the slim ballasts INSIDE the lights. Sweet! :D

I hear you on the hiding wires stuff. :D

walnuts since you got a billet grill just runn the wires into the grill at the bottom. no one would see them. and that way it can be a mess in there. should work out good. and its the same concept with the 700ffs and most other off road lights. i know my kcs take about 15 mins if you have everything. H3 bulbs are the ones you want.
