I worked on the original Escape prototypes.

Believe it or not they started out as Mazda MPV's

we would get them in, tear all the sheetmetal and drivetrains out and built them into the first version of the Escape. I used to drive a heavily camouflaged one home on my lunch break when one needed a road test.
Brian, That was a cool job to have.

It does give off a Japanese vib on the inside, it still looks like a Ford, but it feels Japanese if that makes sense. The one thing I wish they had done would have been to put some sound deadening material in the rear doors. When you close them they ring and sound tinny, they don't have the same solid sound that the front doors do.

yeah it was a cool job.

one fun thing was going to Hertz and renting a Honda for a few weeks and completely ripping it apart for competitive analysis. Then putting it back together and giving it back to Hertz.

I asked my boss about it he said Hertz knew what we were up to (they did it all the time) and they were fine with it

When I worked for York and we were designing a new condensing unit, heat pump, or package rooftop heating and a/c unit, we would get our dealers to buy us new competitor's units. Sometimes they loaned them to us if they were for a job. We would do the same thing, strip them down to the base pan and measure the length of the wire and the copper tubing. We would put them in the lab and run them, to find out how they actually performed. It was a lot of fun. Usually when we were finished with them we put them in the bone yard.

The factory window sticker says the Escape was assembled in Louisville and so does the windshield sticker. :D

Different plant

The Escapes are built at the light truck plant over by the Airport in Louisville right off I-65. That plant used to Make the Ranger and truck based Explorers.

The Ford heavy truck plant is out near Fern valley and Anchorage. They used to build 18 wheelers and heavy body on frame cab trucks there when Ford sold them, this was converted to the Superduties (up to the f-750's?) and now the Navigatiors and Expeditions. Almost literally opposite sides of town from each other.

Expeditions are built in Kentucky.

we had a first year edge.2008..it was a great car. seats were comfy and didnt hurt after 13hrs or so. It was a limited, but lacked some creature comforts. we put some HARD 70k plus miles on it. Mostly going from east texas to Albuquerque every other weekend for a year or so.
traded it for a 2010 f150, did same to it.
priced a new one and OMG...

This one is a Platinum. It has everything but adaptive cruise control. It has a sticker price of $33,856. We got caught another sale, employee pricing plus all of the rebates and trade on my wife's old car. I think we did pretty good on it. Still no where near as comfortable as my Expedition, so i'm glad that I don't have to sit in it for a long time.

We bought the Automatic 4WD version because my wife wanted the extra traction for the winter.

Thats what I said. ;) Fern valley and Anchorage are areas on Eastern Jefferson county/metro Louisville.
I would know I lived there for over 27 years and had many friends that worked both plants or the UPS world hub.

That clears that up! I thought you were talking about Alaska, which would have made them have to ship a long way. :)
