Brian, That was a cool job to have.I worked on the original Escape prototypes.
Believe it or not they started out as Mazda MPV's
we would get them in, tear all the sheetmetal and drivetrains out and built them into the first version of the Escape. I used to drive a heavily camouflaged one home on my lunch break when one needed a road test.
It does give off a Japanese vib on the inside, it still looks like a Ford, but it feels Japanese if that makes sense. The one thing I wish they had done would have been to put some sound deadening material in the rear doors. When you close them they ring and sound tinny, they don't have the same solid sound that the front doors do.
