Mach Audio Rear controls only working

I have a 98 eddie bauer expedition with the mach audio system. In the display of the head unit it shows headphones plugged in even when they are not. There is no sound throught he cabin of the vehicle. If I plug in headphones I can hear the radio just fine. But no sound throughout even if I unplug the headphones. It seems to think they are always plugged in. I replaced the rear audio control panel thinking something was wrong with the jacks on it and I still get the same thing. I replaced the head unit thinking it had alzheimers or something and now i still get no sound in the cabin. There is power to the new head unit, but still no sound. I am at a loss here. Thinking i should go back to the factory head unit and battery operated pc speakers like i had before out of desperation for sound.

Read your owners manual as it does explain how to turn the headphone icon off and how it functions

sorry the instructions aren't in the owners manual Try this procedure to see if it works

Rear seat controls (if equipped)
The rear seat controls allow the
middle seat passengers to operate
the radio, tape, CD or CD changer
(if equipped).
To turn on the rear seat controls,
press the memory preset controls 3
and 5 at the same time. The will
appear in the display.
Pressing 3 and 5 at the same time
again will turn the rear seat controls
off.
If there is a discrepancy between the rear seat and the front audio
controls, (such as both trying to listen to the same playing media), the
front audio system will receive the desired selection.

This procedure is in the 99 owners manual and should be the same for the 98

thank you, i will try that. I wasn't going to argue about the owner's manual, as my daughter is out shopping in the expedition at the moment and I couldn't check. But I found one online and it didn't help me.

A thought if this helps...
I can turn the rear seat controls on and off from the rear control panel. does not matter if the rear controls are on or off, the headphone icon will still display in the head unit and no sound in the cabin.

that's why I re-posted as I didn't find it in the 98 manual its in a separate audio manual and I wasn't able to find that also. But I do believe the procedure is the same for the 98/99 at least its worth a try or you may want to try and find a 98 audio manual Kindly leave a up-date on the forum

not sure but I think you need to get the headphone icon off so try pressing 3 and 5 at the same time

take a look at a 99 owners manual and see if you have the same set-up for the radio controls you can download from owners.ford.com

You may want to check the following fuses Under hood fuse 6, under dash fuse 8 and also mini fuse block under hood fuse 3 and 5 check with a meter

I done the 3 & 5 thing and yes it turns the headphone icon on and off, but still no sound. I went to check out the amp and sub in the rear, because until reading on here, I didn't realize I had them, and I found that they had been spliced at some time. If they are not correctly connected, I will not get any sound will I? Don't I have to have them operational to power the rest of the speakers? I have attached a pic of what the connection looks like, I hope it makes it to this post.

ok, sorry to be gone so long. I finally straight wired one of my speakers and got sound. I found that the original amp and sub are missing and a regular 6x9 was jerry-rigged in its place and obviously not connected right.
is there a way to loop the wires to omit the sub and amp area all together?
