2018 Ford Expedition 4wd 33k

I looked around but can't find any definitive answers. My truck is at the dealer and they state the turbo rattle is normal and will not be replaced. It rattles when started from a cold start and when the throttle is applied moving or in park. Does Ford warranty this issue?

My mirrors will also start to move to an all out or all up position and then continue to pop or click after reaching max travel, after the truck is started and a new driver position is selected. Any solution for this?

I am also having a an intermittent grinding sound when taking off from a stop. Dealer can't reproduce the issue. I feel like it's trying to go into 4wd when this occurs. As at times before it happens the truck feels as if its in 4wd on pavement when turning. TSB 20-2028 sounds like it fits the bill but the TSB serves 2013-2018 models. Did 2018 have the v8 and v6 eco boost platform?

also have an issue with the tailgate going down automatically, they can't reproduce that either. I did locate a TSB on that TSB 19-2162

at the least sunroof is stuck so that they can "fix"

Lots of us used to have the popping mirror problem and had it fixed under warranty. It's a simple software update.

Here’s “the thread” on the mirrors. Head to somewheres near the end and you’ll find the TSB fix:

Your grinding issue is likely the 4wd hub actuator. There multiple threads on it, but this one is fairly short and sweet:

But yes TSB 20-2028 is the correct one. The V8 and V6EB are both referenced because the TSB applies the F150s as well.

Humm has me thinking, I wonder what fuse we can pull for the wastegate instead of pulling the connector off the turbo.

Easy way to find out.

Rev it up, it rattles. unplug the electrical connector to the wastegate.

If rattle goes away you have your answer.

pretty sure it's the waste gate noise. under what circumstance are the turbo/wastegate being replaced. Jordan Ford states the noise is normal.

dealer has had the vehicle for 3 weeks. New brackets where ordered for the sun roof. I sent the TSB's to dealer for the tailgate, mirrors and the intermittent grinding when accelerating, cause they said they could not reproduce any issue except for the sunroof. So I asked them to at least look into these TSB's as they seem to pretty much fit my issues and seem to be easy repairs. The said the noise on start up is the VCT solenoids and that all 4 have to be replaced. I didn't really find issues with the VCT on the 3.5L but seems it was a common issues on the v8 motors. It seemed odd to me as the noise lasts 30-40secs of ticking on cold start and the the motor ticks or rattles when "blipping" the throttle. Seems more like the turbo to me and not the 2-3 sec Cam Phaser noise. But they said its not he cam phasers its the VCT solenoids

went to pick up today after 4 weeks at the dealer. they could not replicate the grinding noise that occurs every so often on acceleration and the rattle was still there after a cold start. they stated they fixed the rattle by replacing the the vct solenoids but it appears that wasn't the issue. they did address the pivot arms for the sun roof, the tailgate closing by itself and the mirrors popping. They stated that they can't replace the turbo until it throws a "code". I asked what code will be thrown when its a mechanical noise of the flapper rattling in the turbo housing. I received no answer.

Update. Week 6 at the dealer

dealer and Ford are stating that the rattle on start up are a normal noise now. after they replaced the VCT solenoids to "fix" the start up rattle. I have what I believe is a turbo waste gate rattle on start up and acceleration. Its been there for 6 weeks now and they claim the turbo is fine after I stated I would just buy a new one and repair the vehicle myself.

Will unplugging the electrical solenoid on the turbo make the rattle stop upon start up, so I can demo this to the dealer?

Did your invoice reference how they "fixed" the lift gate closing by itself; and were there other lift gate issues associated with your complaint? I'm tired of getting bonked on the head when unloading groceries etc. Sometimes it even closes when you walk past the open lift gate and the dealer has tried to cure it with little success, although it now does occasionally respond to a kick under the bumper

Thanks
Just my luck. Ground wire relocated with negligible changes and it still closes by itself

Update 6 weeks 1 day

Dealer called today after I reached out to cancel my service plan and extended warranty. They stated the catalytic is causing the cold start rattle. Part ordered, we will see.
I informed the GM that I have owned the vehicle 10 months, of those 10 months they have had it 2.5 months.
