wats going on guys,

we have a 2000 XLT with just over 190k miles on it and its fully stock. Over the past few years we have had problems with it missing and hesaiting on accleration. At first we thought it was the transmission and we had it flushed out and new fluid put in it. then it started up again. I am more car savey then my parents and this is my moms dd. I took it up to the auto store in town and get the code pulled that had been on for a while and it said somthing about the EGR flow. so we had that replaced and it still doing it. and the same code is still poping up. Can u guys help me out? thanks alot in advanced.

jacob

oh another thing. it does it when its at normal operation temp and between 45-65 and when u step on the gas hard to make it drop a gear and go it stops....somewhat

was it a p0171 or p0142 code?
It could be one of a few things. but to star i saw check the vacuum hoses especially the passenger side. I have had mine dry rot & this causes hesitation. also check the bolts that connect the throttle body to the intake manifold one of mine were lose. You my want to clean the MAF sensor as well. these are all things you can do for under 20$. if you buy replacement hoses &maf cleaner. another thing that can cause hesitation is a clogged fuel filter. when was that changed?

hope this helps!

did you replace the EGR valve??? if the code was about egr flow its more likly the DPFE or the lines going to it. these lines often get replaced with regular vaccum hose when they where out and these rubber lines break down and plug the sensor they need to be neopreme lines. if you can get the codes again and post them we could help more

um im not sure which code it was. if u told me which ones those are i will let know which one it is. i believe it was "insefecient EGR flow" or somthing like that. im not sure about the fuel filter ill have to find that out

another thing is that i am not used to this engine bay so if u guys can get some links to which vacuum lines i need to check and which sensors to check and bolts and what not. i can do it i just dont know where to look.

ok the egr tube comes off the driver side exhaust manifold you can follow that up to the egr valve. along this tube you will see 2 small tubes with hose attached these run to the DPFE which i am thinking someone over time has used plain rubber vaccum lines which have broke down and pluged the sensor if so i would replace it and get the proper neopreme lines on there... the MAF sensor is just after the airfilter you can remove it and clean it with MAF cleaner or brake kleen. the IAC motor is on the passenger side of the intake. unbolt it and clean out the carbon and put back. the PCV valve is in the rear of the passenger side valve cover follw the line to the back of the intake and check the the rubber elbow
