I woke up one morning to a dead battery. Found that the alternator was the culprit and changed it out. After the fix, my 4.6L has a miss. So I have checked all the obvious causes. The wires are about a year old, plugs are about a year and a half. Not sure on the coil packs. The miss is intermittent until it warms up then it's constant. It smooths out when the motor is kept above 1500-1700 rpm, once the throttle is released it goes right back to missing. Please help!!!!! I really don't want to just start throwing money at it.

1998, 252k, don't know what "MIL" is, and no I have not. Beginning to think someone pulled the bulb from the "check engine" light. It's nowhere to be found on the dash on start up.

MIL= Malfunction Indicator Lamp. It's the same as CEL (Check Engine Light).

Have the codes read, write them down and reference them.

I figured it out. Talked to a couple people experienced with 4.6L's. It was a loose spark plug.
