So i've had it up to here------today i took a buddy to the airport and as soon as i got on the highway she started acting up. It felt like the tranny was slipping. It would kinda stutter going up hill and only while i was giving it gas. I managed to make there and back and when i got close to home i put it in 4x4 h and it stopped. And now it won't disengage from 4x4. What can it be??? It's like the problems just keep coming!

Ok after doing some quick research i found that bad o2 sensors can cause this stumbling. Funny 'cause 2 of my o2 sensors have been bad for years and i've never changed them. This is the first time it has done this. I will get on top (or should i say under) this and keep you guys posted.

the stumbling is often caused by a bad COP (coil on plug) they dont cause a hard fault and thus the CEL (check engine light) won't come on... as for the 4x4 not disengaging I don't know but your symptoms of stumbling is very similar to a COP going bad

thats what i was thinking as well, but when i checked for codes, the only ones i got were 136 and 155 for o2 sensors. but they been there for atleast 2 years. if it is a cop how would i know which one without a code?

Pull the wires that go to the coils one at a time while the truck is running (and acting up).

Each time you pull one, the rpms should drop. Plug it back in and try the next one.
The one that doesn't make a difference, is the bad one. (because that cylinder isn't firing anyway)

If it's easier to get to the injector plugs, you can use them instead.

I have the same issue you have without the 4x4 issue, it could be your COP like the guys said, you will notice if you keep the gas pedal pretty even not mashing down on it, it will act fine, but once you give it gas it gives a little tug. If you get your truck scanned for CELs you will find which one it is by throwing a P030X (X being cylinder #s say like P0302 is cyl #2) then that will be your culprit COP, but the best way to get rid of it is change out the spark plugs and ALL the COPs, you can get them on Ebay for around less than $100. In my situation, a couple COPs quit and turned out to be the fuel pump. So that would be the most prudent and simple way of approaching it. If it throws any other code than that, please post them on here and one of the guys can tell you what it can be. You can always get a free scan done at Autozone. Hope this helps!

update: replace an o2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1 driver side upstream, drove around for a bit and the ce light is back on. haven't had a chance to pull the code yet=will do tomorrow. i know it's the same code again. p0155. as for the stuttering it kinda went away but the truck still runs like sh/t. i don't know what else it could be.

after all my aggravation i finally took it to a good mechanic (even suggested i pay in installments if i don't have it all$) but he said that on these trucks you have to use motorcraft. i said bs. so he removed the old ones and put in 2 new motorcraft o2 sensors and viola! its not throwing any codes. charged $75 each o2 and $50 for labor. wish i would have just went with motorcraft from the start!!!! from now on when it comes to sensors and stuff like that it's motorcraft or nothing! just posting this in multiple threads to help out the next man
