Hi, I'm new to the forum. Still have my '97 Expy w/5.4L. 120K and experiencing a "misfire" on #4. I KNOW IT'S THE COP, because I've replaced every Dxxx one of them except this one (I have them documented). I "crawled under there" today and I'm really concerned about whether I can do this one myself. Appears the Fuel Rail and Injectors need to come out for access. Can anyone share with me what needs to be done to accomplish this required replacement? I've purchased the COP, but "don't feel good about this one." I've done all the others myself over the years, and as you all know, none of them are much fun. Thanks for any detailed instructions anyone can provide, or guidance on this forum to previously answered Posts on same subject. Thanks for all responses. Ed V.

"sometimes" you can squeeze them out but if you can't you need to pull the fuel rail and sometimes the injector will pull out with it- ugh.
But just go ahead and do it- having done them before you will be fine

is #4 the one closest to the fire wall on the passenger side?

Yes

I got the #4 out on my 2001 Expy without removing the fuel rail. YOu shouldn't have any issue doing yourself.

Same with mine stock.
But now I have a BA adjustable fuel pressure regulator in the way.. :(

So you you talked with your hips? lol Maybe you guys wont get that one. I removed my fuel rails. It makes it easier and there is only 2 bolts holding the rail in so why not. You lose a bit of gas but as long as turn the key to the notch just before ignition for a few seconds before going all the way(lets keep it clean here) you should be fine. I need new coil packs as well. Not quite at misfire but the engine isnt very smooth.
