I have a 2000 Expy 5.4L - 136k miles 2 wheel drive. The transmission seems to shift good and smooth when accelerating. However, if while cruising, i lift off the accelerator and then accelerate again, the engine revs and then (for lack of a better term) "shifts" back down to normal RPMs -- when i say "shifts" I'm still in Overdrive -- it just acts like it has shifted to a lower gear and then back to overdrive.

This same behavior occurs on a downshift -- the transmission downshifts and the revs are higher than they should be for a few seconds (5 seconds maybe) and then revs return to where they should be.

I only notice this when either lifting off the accelerator and re-applying pressure to the accelerator OR when downshifting such as to pass.

Any ideas? I'm kind of wondering if something is just slipping or???
