Hi all,

Bought a new '24 Platinum (4x4) - came with tow package (won't tow anything, just wanted the rear axle & radiator upgrade - I'm in Texas! )

Plan is to keep this vehicle forever and drive around the whole country (10-12k miles a year).

So far

1. Turned off DRL, power running board as I don't need them.
2. Bought a 7yr/84k miles Ford extended warranty
3. Set 2A as the drive mode

What else can I do to make it immortal ? Please share your secrets :) Thanks!

If I were here, you would know it !
Push bar front!
That, and a BIG lift, BIG tires, BIG Bar lights, BIG head/tail light covers, well, you get the idea... BIG EVERYTHING !

In other words: Go BIG, or stay home .......hahahaha :D j/k...

But anyways, regular maintenance & using good quality fuel/filters/fluids etc is the key to a long, happy life for almost any vehicle, Expy or otherwise...

Also check regularly for any recalls, and have them addressed ASAP !

The daytime running light feature is clearly a safety feature. Why would you disable it?

I'd love to use full synthetic - but Ford dealers will probably use MC synthetic blend anyway as recommended. Any trick to get around that? Another issue here is external oil change places are just as bad as dealerships.

Sorry - I just don't like daytime light festival. I'm in Texas - pretty much everybody keeps DRL off here.

You have to tell them (before they start) that you want FULL SYNTHETIC. If you dont mention any specified oil they will indeed use the blend.

My dealer has a Fast Lane that I use. They will put in full synthetic as will the main service department. You are paying for it with Fords reward program then out of your pocket. I have used full synthetic for decades in every vehicle I own.

Your vehicle you can do what you want. But I want anything that helps visibility. I don’t see them. I did not even know you can turn them off, but I have never looked for a setting.

Depending on your needs:

#1
A good set of floor mats. These make cleaning the vehicle out of sand, stones, mud etc VERY easy.
Maxliner
Husky
TuxMat
WeatherTech

#2
Ford makes a great liner for the rear of the vehicle depending on if you have a normal length or Max. This is great no matter what.

#3
If you are concerned about heat while parked outside, look at having the sunroof tinted with a ceramic tint. That tint has amazing IR and heat rejection and it is remarkable how much cooler the interior is when parked. I even did my windshield with a very light shade but they even manufacture a clear version.

#4
Good wiper blades when your factory ones wear out. I purchase mine from RockAuto.com and use the TRICO 90220 (LINK) silicone ceramic. They stay soft, have no chatter even in freezing temperatures and resist the sun better than any I have used. Or they have very inexpensive blades that you could change more frequently for $3-6. Either way it is way less money than retail even with shipping. Don't forget to pick up a rear blade.

#5
Like others have said, <5K oil changes, preferably with synthetic oil and quality filters.

I've been using these for some time now, and find them to be an excellent value, considering that they last as long or longer than most so-called "winter" or "all-season" blades that I have tried in the past...

And cheap wipers are a recipe for disaster, unless you live somewhere that it NEVER/rarely rains or snows....remember what Forest said:

"cheap is as cheap does" - well, sorta, but you get the point :D

Welcome! For long life, I recommend FULL SYNTHETIC oil changes at no m, more than 5,000-mile intervals. I change mine at 3,000 because I do a lot of in-town driving, not too many road miles
