I'm trying to find a way to lower my roof rack. I have a 2000 Expy XLT with stock roof racks.
Currently the rack is "resting" on and mounted to the front and rear "main beams" (I have no idea what to call them).
I've seen others mounted on hardware that connects to the rain gutter of the vehicle. (See file att'd) I don't have a rain gutter.
In pics of your (very awesome) Expedition, it looks like you're doing a combo: using the front/rear 'rack beams' and some sort of hardware support. Do you mind sharing what you've done?
I'm guessing you've got something in the rails that run the length of the vehicle. If so, would those be:
Sufficient to use without the front/rear 'beams,' and
Would it help lower my rack any (I'm pushing the limits of the garage door, and i want taller tires !)
thanks so much !
The rack sits on the beams that run the legnth of the vehicle, now the beams that run side to side are just there for support. I just used a mounting kit from Surco.
