I have a 2005 Expedition XLT. I tow a 4000 pound travel trailer. I am looking to replace the struts to give a more firm ride when towing. What brand have you used. Thanks.

I would Put Bilstein’s if you are ready to replace struts, but I have found LT rated tires to be more important for stability especially in towing. LT rated tires are for heavy work and P rated tires are for comfort. The weight ratings will show that P rated will do the job but it is not the same as using LT tires. The expedition is a big vehicle and the tires makes a huge difference. You can run them at 40 psi or so if you aren’t towing or hauling but pump them up to 50 or 60 if you’re hauling a load. They are rated up to 80 psi at max load. I think you will Find that factory struts and most decent quality replacements will be suitable to do the job with the proper tires unless your struts are completely worn out.

thanks. I have good tires. I had the struts replaced with some from O'Reilly (houes brand). I am bouncing like a pogo stick. My old struts were working but I thought after 15 years they might need an upgrade. These new ones are frightening, even when not towing.
