So I rented a car and drove 6 hours to get it. It was warmed up when I got there. Test drive was fine. Next morning. Slow shifts 1/2 and some other shift maybe 5/6 till the truck warmed up.
82k miles.

I put it on my lift today. Man she's heavy. So clean! I coated it heavy with 3/4 of a gallon of fluid film(pictures before).

Then I checked the trans fluid.

I texted my sales guy today to see if they would pay for a service up here. We will see what they say

Looks like the damage already done, any service might make it worse.
I would suggest to leave as is until you get a new/rebuilt transmission.
It could last a year like that or it could leave you stranded tonight.

I have service planned for next week. $400. I just backed it up and it took a while to engage and then slipped or disengaged for a second and then went back into reverse.
I am going to have them reset the learn memory as well.
I sent another text to the sales guy to keep him updated. hopefully they step up.

Wow, sorry to hear that you picked up a car but a bad trans. I think like Yupster dog mentioned the damage is done. A new trans from a dealer ranges from $3500 - $4500 depending on what dealer you go to (that's over the counter and return the old for a core refund) then factor in labor of about 10 hours. Check Parts.Ford.Com and enter your vin and zip and check the prices at a few dealers - they do vary in price per dealer. I'd look to go that route since there is a lot of updates to the older 10R80 10 speeds and rebuilding them usually costs more. I was just left on the side of the road stranded a few months back from a problem with the 10 speed in my 2018 Max Expedition 700 miles from home with my three kids in the car. There's problems with the valve body and its separator plate that causes most of the hard erratic shifts then the C D F cutch drum which has a steel sleeve pressed into the aluminum drum which directs fluid to one of the three clutches but moves since its only pressed in. They are two different metals so you could imagine the expansion rate changes so the fluid goes every where it shouldn't when the steel bushing shifts. Check Youtube, tons of videos and sad Ford is releasing info on these problems now that most of these cars are starting to go out of Warranty coverage. There is also used car lemon laws in some States but they are usually for a short time frame of 30 or 60 days after purchase. I'd arm yourself with the cost of a new trans and what your State laws are and reach out to the dealer you bought it from and try to work with them to replace the trans.

I see you're in PA.

I am not sure it is toast. I changed my fluid at 45k miles and it looked pretty dark too. The fluid also had loads of clutch material. Let them drop the pan and see what a new fluid and filter would do.
