Okay, two days after Hurricane Irene passed through and dumped 10" of rain in my area. Yesterday, I went to start my '99 Exped. 5.4L and she would not idle. I thought maybe I had bad gas or moisture in the fuel system somehow and poured a bottle of water remover in the tank. No change. The engine would rev but not idle. Cleaned throttle body opening fro air cleaner assembly with throttle body spray cleaner and a clean rag. Quite a bit of black grime/sot came off. Went back and tried again. Still no idle but I revved the motor then held a steady rpm of 2000 for about 10 seconds and let go. She idled fine at 700rpm and took her for a drive and all was normal. This issue popped up one other time about 4 months ago where she didn't idle on the 1st crank and after revving her up on the 2nd crank she was fine. (can't recall the weather that day) My question is what happened? Water or bad fuel? Moisture from Hurricane rains got under the hood? Dirty throttle body opening? Or, bad IAC, but wouldn't that act up more frequently? Bad MAF? By the way, today she fired right up and idled and drove fine!
