I just got my 2000 5.4l expy and upon cold starts (15-25 degrees) my expy has no oil pressure. If you bump the throttle, it quickly jumps to 2 clicks above half and stays there for 5-6 seconds until it drops back to 0. it won't slow drop either, just goes from full pressure to nothing.

This morning I let it Idle for 8 minutes, which is when it all of a sudden got pressure back...never heard a tick or knock. I'm going to assume, its a bad sending unit, since 8 minutes on a cold start should have been plenty of time to hear rockers tapping or somthing....right?

I found one thread after searching about a chaffing wire on the drip chute, but my wire runs along the side of the oil filter, so I don't think that is it.

Anyone else get this?

I have also had this problem for a couple of years with my 2000 5.4.
I think it is pretty common and it is generally the sending unit, from what I have heard.
I never fixed it, however, so I can't be certain, but I do know my truck has been running just fine with no problems.
