Hey everyone new here as many know!

Been loving our expedition thus far but tonight my wife has noticed some sort of ticking noise can’t exactly tell where it’s coming from.

Truck has around 12,700 miles on it oil change isn’t called for until 17k but I checked oil and thinking of changing it myself before then.

We’re new to the ecoboost so are there certain noises it makes?

The 3.5 EB does make lots of noises! A video clip of the noise would certainly help some folks on here identify

I don’t know if it does make a different but since we’ve bought the truck it has been driven daily, before purchasing not sure how much it was driven it sat at dealership for almost 3 months so doubt a lot of driving.

Also do live in Texas and now we’re getting our first little cold front it’s been fairly warm so I don’t know if maybe those are factors into some of the noises.

Not sure about the noise you are hearing .. but are you saying that the oil hasn't been changed yet since new and the vehicle has 12.7k miles on it?

No it’s been changed, sticker says next oil change is around 17k however we have 12.7k miles on truck and it’s already saying that oil life is 78%

Okay let me see if I can screen record the noise and post it.

It’s a 23 on paper but manufacturers month/yr would put it as a 24.

Yeah I have already told my wife definitely full synthetic will be a must.

What's the model year on the title or title application?

What's the build date on the sticker on the driver's door jamb? There should be two stickers there: One will have the VIN, build date, and option codes. The other will have tire and vehicle loading info.

On title it’s listed as 23, build date if I remember looking at it right is I think 5/23.

From my experience, all turbo engines make a good amount of noise. If you're not used to it, it's a lil disconcerting. At cold temps, both my expy and nav would idle rougher than normal, with the occasional ticking on the nav. However, once warmed up or 10 min, it was smooth as silk. On your free time, take it in to make sure it's normal, and make sure they don't charge you for it. Also, for the eb's, most owners with long term trucks say 5k mile intervals with only synthetic helped their engines last.

Yeah last night was the first time we’ve heard it and at that point we’ve driven it everyday and hadn’t heard it so thinking maybe a little fluke so to speak.

We’re definitely gonna keep driving and if it repeats it definitely will be visiting the dealership.

Okay, yeah that’s my goal is to go ahead and change oil and run full synthetic just for a little extra comfort.

Does the rattle sound louder at the front left/or right wheel wells when u rev? (have someone rev engine while u have ears near front wheel wells

Definitely sounds like turbo wastegate rattle. Ford says its normal. Mines rattle at cold start, then quite down after about 20 seconds at idle. BUT still rattles when I rev the engine and normal driving.

So I went out and started it and revved it up with hood open. Sound does seem to be coming from driver side wheel well area, and to me it does sound like a rattle definitely not a tick when I slowly give it gas doesn’t really seem to do it but when let off gas or rev it definitely hear it.

So another thing to follow up with not sure how much difference it makes but truck did sit almost 3 months without being sold, so I imagine with it not being truly driven it’s starting it break in period too.

This is what mines sounds like when started and when the engine revs. Its sounds louder than yours tho just because it been doing it a long time and Ford wont replace my turbos cause its a " normal" non performance issue. Only "fix" is installing springs to quite it down. But yours doesnt seem bad yet
