This is what mines sounds like when started and when the engine revs. Its sounds louder than yours tho just because it been doing it a long time and Ford wont replace my turbos cause its a " normal" non performance issue. Only "fix" is installing springs to quite it down. But yours doesnt seem bad yet

Yep that’s exactly what it sounds like just like you stated and not as loud and for the first time it did it, it was in the cold.

So maybe since I have warranty I could potentially get it replaced?

I was under the factory 60,000 powertrain warranty when Ford looked at it and they said nothings wrong and its a normal sound so it didnt qualify for replacement. The whole turbo would need to be replaced if so.

The wastegate arm/linnkage cant be replaced on its own.

You can bring it to the dealer and have them listen and check it out but if its indeed the wastegate linkage rattling I doubt they will do anything and say its normal.

I've been thinking about this and my reaction is "not so fast".

If the wastegate rattle has no impact on performance or long-term reliability, I think I'd learn to live with it. Yes, that's a big "if". My thinking is that in order for the dealer to fix it, they'd have to replace the turbo(s) as a unit. That is a big job and they'd be opening oil and coolant lines. They might address the symptom by replacing the turbos, but there's a possibility that the thing won't go back together correctly.

Of course, if you change or replace springs yourself, then more power to you.

I’m with you and absolutely does make sense. However it is my wife’s vehicle so I’d like to get it checked to be certain for her peace of mind. Happy wife happy life lol

Heck I’ve had to convince her at idle you can hear the turbos not spooling up but there whistle. We have a diesel which it’s noticeable and no issue there.

We do come from a 5.4 v8 Expo so the ecoboost is very new to us so we’re kinda of learning it as we go.

WOW! I can't begin to imagine NOT changing my oil every 5,000 miles or less. I change mine every 3,000 miles. Where on earth did the 17,000 mile interval come from? That sounds totally insane. If I were you, I would get a full-synthetic oil change TODAY. I would also change it again in three HUNDRED miles just to purge the sludge.

I think when he bought it used, it had 12,000+ miles and oil life set to 17,000+ miles. So all good. Otherwise, I am not jumping into the oil interval debate!!

Just a word here, as I've posted before. Getting rid of the noise via turbo replacements is only a temporary solution. Albeit mine lasted about 2 years before the noise started coming back but getting Ford to agree to do the turbo replacement came at a great cost, 9 months of fighting with Ford, escalation after escalation, and Ford even got to the point of wanting to offer buyback, over a crappy linkage design. It was nice to not have the noise, but it's slowly but surely coming back.

I did just do the springs myself about 2 months ago, and it definitely helps, it's not perfect but it does help.

Yes sorry I really misworded that. The truck had a little over 12k miles when purchased and the next change is at 17k miles.

Gotcha, yeah that’s not a battle I’d want to deal with and then put myself to one 1 vehicle.

It didn’t do it yesterday and my wife hasn’t mentioned it today she’s been running errands today so it maybe was a one time thing or like you said just very subtle at times.

I’m definitely gonna purchase springs.
