i'm a fairly new owner of an Expy & i was reading the manual & noticed that it recommends using only 87 oct in your tank. i have the 5.4L V8 engine & always had used 93 oct in my previous vehicles that had V8 engines in them. so i guess i'm trying to figure out what everyone else uses?

I put 87 in mine. The only vehicle I put 91 in is the Cobra because that's what it's tuned for.

There are a lot of people who (apparently like to waste money) feel that they are 'babying' their rides by putting in 'premium' fuel. And if they are happy, then more power to them. There is no benefit to it, it is not 'cleaner' or better fuel, but again it makes them happy.

BUT....

It really comes down to compression ratio and the tendency of pre-ignition (pinging)
If you have a high compression motor, or one that has forced induction (turbo or supercharger) then you need to run higher octane fuel to keep it from igniting in the cylinder too soon and causing problems.

If you drive a normal car or truck and it doesn't specifically say 'premium fuel only', then you should be putting in regular 87 octane in it. Unless you are one of those people mentioned above, in that case, spend on my friend.
