Hi guys,

I know this might be out of the scope of this forum, but I'm looking to get some sort of off road steel bumper on my Navi. I busted up my front end a little and now it seems like a good excuse to do something cool with it. It seems like most websites that offer this sort of bumper skip over the second gen expedition. I also understand that even if I was to get one that fits a second gen expedition, it still may not fit my Navi. So here are my questions/points of discussion.

1) Would a steel bumper designed for an 03-06 Expedition fit an 03-06 Navigator with no modifications? I'm asking this from a frame fitment perspective as well as the areas around the headlights and grille. I have looked on places like MOVE bumpers, and they don't seem to have anything for the second gen. I'm also struggling to find any sites that support the second gen expedition in general.

I have found another thread where someone got a custom bumper from WAM bumpers for their expy:
Something along these lines would be cool, but for a navigator.

Additionally this website:
Similar, but again, would this work with a Navigator?

2) For anyone that has experience (@Vancouver Bob or anyone else) with WAM bumpers, how was your experience? Their site doesn't currently offer anything for the expy, so was your job custom? Would they still do custom jobs for something as niche as a navigator? This thread seems to be the best lead I have towards what I'm looking for. (BlueLakeOffroad as well)

3) I'm also open to making one on my own, but I would rather buy it if I can. If it comes to this, does anyone know if it would be welded in or bolt on, or just general things to know about the frame fitment etc that would be nice to know?

I know I'm working in a pretty niche segment, but any advice or insight is apprectiated. Thanks!

I can't offer much help as I have not studied the Navigator much since I purchased my Expedition and was comparing the Exp and Navi. The fenders, headlights and grille are not the same. The frames are the same. I would bolt the new bumper on, welding it would likely be regretted I suspect.

I can say at one time I consider replacing my front bumper cover with a steel bumper. This would have required me to cut the upper bumper cover as the grille would be retained. A bumper that would fit the Expedition with the grille separated looks very similar to the shape of the Navigator grille, but I don't think it would actually fit the Navigator. The vertical distance between the bottom of the grills and the bottom of the headlights looks longer on the Expedition.

I built one. Grill and bumper. If I did it over again, I'd do it differently. This is a 2004 Expedition. The grill and bumper are all one big piece of connected plastic bits. When you get all that off, the little metal bumper underneath bolts to the frame. I used those same bolts and also ran a very thick piece of steel that is part of the bumper inside the frame and ran a 5/16" or better pin through it and the frame just as backup.

Here is what it looks like after you pull all the plastic (and the metal bumper) off (frame circled in red):

Take a look at Iron Bull Bumpers. They're in Casa Grande AZ. The website has a matching section with various makes & models listed. If your Navi year isn't on there, look elsewhere, or ask about it. Their Fab (8 wks) & Delivery time (?) isn't great, so if you're not within driving distance, and in a hurry, look closer to home.
