I still can't find it 97 EB there is a plastic black cover just behind the right front bumper, I wonder if the oil filter is above that?

BTW I changed the oil and filter in my Accordin 10 minutes...

Which IS EASY!

If you have an EB with the towing package, that you should see the oil filter just behind the bumper on the driver side. If you don't see it, then you probably don't have the tow package.

Check just behind the front cross member bar, you might be able to see it there.

Here are some pics of engines to help you out.

Here is a picture of a 5.4L engine from a SuperCrew with the 5.4L engine.

The oil filter in the 2003 is below a pulley and at an angle (white). It looks like in the older engine, the oil filter is behind the pulley?

OK I found it, THAT IS great!

That remote mount option is probably the easiestI have ever seen.

-Thanks again.

D-mn! I tried to get the oil filter off the 5.4 today. First, it's in an odd location to get at and second- the friggin' filter must have been welded on at the factory!

After nearly crushing the filter, I took it to the JiffyLubers. Took 2 guys and a really long handle to get it off. And $30 even with MY oil and MY filter.

That sucked.

I got mine off easily with a cap that goes over the end of the filter, and a wrench. Like the ones found here I got it from Walmart and it was metal, but our walmart only sells the plastic version now.

I had a band style wrench and one that grabbed on the end and got tighter as I turned the wrench... both crushed the filter.

I never tighten any more than hand tight on any car. For almost 20 years, I've never had an oil filter leak and can get them off easily.

But those factory installed filters... the reason I have any filter wrenches at all...

I had the same time removing the filter installed from the factory on our '03 EXPY.

I tried the jaw type filter. That only crushed the filter.

I tried poking it through the center with a screwdriver. That had worked in the past, except the screwdriver poked all the way through and I didn't notice the pulley on the other side of the filter. Once I figured that out, I still couldn't get enough leverage with the screwdriver to get the oil filter out.

Tried the band type oil filter remover. I placed it at the very base of the filter and managed to move the filter 1 cm before running into the cross member, but at least the filter moved.

One month had passed from the time I drained the oil until I finally removed the filter.

Not sure if I am repeating something here, but if you guys are hating life with the location of the oil filter, then remote oil filter mounting kits are easily obtained from the like of JC Whitney, etc. Easy to install, and it makes changing the oil filter a snap.

On my '98 EB, Ford had installed as part of the towing package the remote oil mount.....did they stop doing that in later model years???

I'll probably go with the remote filter now. My only concern is how FORD would see a non-stock filter if we had an oil related failure.

Might try it on the Mustang first...

After my oil filter debacle, I relocated the oil filter just behind the front bumper

IMG_0076.JPG

Much easier to get at.

As for oil leaks, I'm not worried since I did the install myself. As for more locations for oil leaks, the Ford factory oil filter relocation provides the same number of locations as well (more or less).

As for non-stock filter, according to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, Ford can't deny you just by seeing a non-stock filter.

For you do it yourselfers...I would HIGHLY recommend dabbing a little oil on the rubber ring before insertying the new oil filter. Thisis the reason that the factory filters are a BEAR to remove...since they insert a new filter on a new block.

Ohh and I use Mobil-1 exclusively.

My understanding is that by law, an OEM cannot deny warranty claims based on aftermarket equipment, as long as the equipment meets specifications, which in terms of oil filters, air filters, gas filters, etc. they all do. Also, remote mounting the oil filter is of no concern.

Put the remote mount on the Exby, and any oil filter you want to use (but see posts on the subject, there are some that are better then others!!)...there should not be any issues.
