Just changed my oil and may have overfilled a bit. Where on the dipstick is it safe? I'm just above the top hole above the crosshatch area.
Thx

you can check your owners for the proper fill level If your just slightly above the fill mark you should be ok Or you could replace your filter then start the vehicle and re-check your level Being you most likely just changed the filter I would place it in a sealed plastic bag and use it for the next oil/filter change.

when I change oil and filter I always fill with 1 qt. less, then start the engine, check for leaks and shut it off. Let it sit for a bit re-check oil level and then top off till its at the fill mark.

Thanks bedrck, that's normally what I do too but after putting the 5 qt. jug in, I opened the other jug and went alittle crazy adding the other 2 qts. and overfilled.
Another question...my oil pressure gauge reads just past the midway point and stays there all the time (no fluctuation at all). Is that normal and how does that gauge correspond numerically? I know low and high pressures are bad, but usually being in the midrange is fine, just curious about pressure numbers.

I don't know what the gauge is indicating as far as PSI Being its at mid range that would be normal the only other way is you could get a pressure gauge and install it or even get a Bluetooth obII sender and a program like Torque Pro and see what your readings are Some Bluetooth devices are as low as approx. $10.00 and the Torque Pro Program is about $5.00 can pair it with a tablet, laptop, smart phone will also give you service codes and you would be able to clear codes

It is my understanding that the oil gauges in these vehicles are always the same as long as there is pressure. As soon as it drops below a certain point, the gauge goes all the way down to signal a problem. They may have changed it on later models, but I would doubt it. I fill my truck past the mark quite frequently and have never had a problem with it.

Yeah, oil pressure gauge looks like hi/lo readings only. Hopefully CEL comes on if either occurs.
I do have a bluetooth elm27 unit to check this with my new galaxy note....good idea bedrck46. Thanks guys

I use the wired version with my laptop, works great but will try the bluetooth also. Definitely prefer wired connections for accuracy, but bt may be fine.

I use the ELM 327 with bluetooth. The trick with the bluetooth is to watch what you pair it with. Loves my Lucid LG but hates the Motorola Droid X2.
Had an interesting situation about two weeks ago with subzero temperatures. Intake temp. was showing -11.6° F but the transmission temp. was showing 8817.4° F!! Guess the transmission temp. formula couldn't handle the negative values! Nice watching the differences between the O2 sensors realtime.
