Oil on back of engine

Recently changed the oil. There was a coating of oil on the back of pan (and some above it). Someone told me it could mean rear seal. I am wondering if the pan can leak even with the bolts tight?

Ok, just saw myfingers can't spell. That should be engine. LOL

Bad oil pan gasket? They do wear out. Also, if the bolts are overtightened they can crush the gasket.
