Now to start, i know a little about engines but i'm not the say all end all on them. I underwent the arduous task last night of replacing the spark plugs and a few dry rotted coil packs on my 01 Expy. Took 6 hours! Now, on cylinder 1 & 2, the plugs had a good amount of engine oil coating them. Every other cylinder was fine, not even a lot of rust (264,000). Please let me know what you guys think, i know it's not good. Thanks

Does it burn a lot of oil? Also what kind of oil do you use? I use 10w-30 in order to help combat against the wearing piston rings, etc. Do you have a bad knock in the motor around those plugs?

Surprisingly it doesn't show signs of any malfunction. I've been using Valvoline 5-20 and it doesn't burn oil or knock. Just found it really strange.

With that high mileage I wouldn't worry about it until you have a major problem. To be cost effective your looking at replacing the engine - crate or low mileage, just due to the amount of wear.

Why tear into the engine for 2 cylinders?

How much oil is burned between oil changes?

Most likely just engine wear. Could be valve guides, seals, or piston rings. These motors also suck a lot of oil through the pvc system but not sure that would just show up on the cylinders identified.

As stamp said, I would not be concerned if its running fine and not smoking.

1 & 2 are right under the oil fill tube. Was it just the threads of the plugs? Plug wells oily?? :)

The oil is only on the threads and towards the spark. I think i'm going to just not worry about it until it blows up. I definitely will keep the truck though and drop a new engine in it because it's in great shape. Thanks for the input. Also i'm throwing a p0107 engine lean code. Would these be related? obviously just changed the plugs and sprayed out the MAF Sensor to try and remedy the problem. It came back on about 1000 miles later (just drove from Virginia to Michigan) thanks guys

In regards to the P0107 code; I took the truck in to get the code taken care of (i'm out of town and don't have my tools with me). They told me that the PCV valve was aftermarket and was dry rotting. $45 out the door and i'm sleeping good tonight.
