Ok to use this fluid in my transfer case

Getting ready to perform a fluid swap in my transfer case. Just want to make sure I am using the correct fluid. I bought this at The auto parts store:



I only ask because it says nothing about Mercon V, only Mercon. I belive the old Ford part number for the transfer case fluid was XL-12?
Am I correct, can I use this fluid in my transfer case. Thanks

And it's a 2000 Eddie Bauer with 5.4 and 4R100

It originally called for Mercon and in my manual it says specifically not to use Mercon V. Since Mercon V replaced the older Mercon though, I hear Ford is now saying it's okay to use.

I initially replaced mine with Dex/Merc fluid and my Tcase was getting stuck in 4x4 once it engaged. I switched to mobil 1 ATF but still ended up having to replace the Tcase last year. I filled the new (used part) one with Mobil 1 ATF and drove all winter without any 4x4 issues.

I would go to a Ford dealer part's department with your vehicle VIN and ask them to look up the correct fluid. You may pay a little more for the fluid there (than aftermarket) - but you will get the correct fluid and not have to worry.

I actually spoke to the Local Ford dealership and they said they use Mercon V.

Went on youtube and found this video. In the video it clearly states that the correct part number for Ford Transfer Case Fluid was XL-12. Since the label on the Valvoline states that it is " Recommended for Ford XL-12 ", I should be good to go.

Also, the Motorcraft Mercon V bottle says not to use in the transfer case.

Im using Motorcraft Transfer Case fluid, XL12.
