I'm going to not worry too much about the shackles. I cannot even find a pic of one of them broken via google. I'll invest in a good shackle - 7k, 9.5k, whatever - then just go with it

on a straight pull a 6 or 7 T shackle will be perfect, it just in cases where the snatchblock is used to hook back the winch line to the truck that I would be concerned.

And it's not at the truck end that is the concern, it is the snatchblock end. That's the end that will take the very high loads.

crosby is a good shackle. just make sure you use USA made. No Chinese cheap shackles. We aren't even allowed to use them with cranes. Cheap steel
