My overdrive light is blinking on and off repeatedly once I start the car and put it in drive, and it's stuck in over drive. I disconnected the battery and reset my programmer back to stock and it's still doing it.

Any ideas? Mechanic wants 200 bucks just for a transmission diagnostic.

A lot of people are saying stuff about the sensors, solenoid, and something being stuck in the tranny.

I don't think my programmer will read transmission trouble codes.

Yeah mine just started doing it yesterday and hasn't stopped. Shifting is very firm and whenever I let go of the gas it feels like I just stomped on the brake. My MPG's are extremely low and it is driving terribly.

i hate to say it....but it sounds like a rebuild is in your future :(

how many miles on her?

only 61K

Are you sure it needs a rebuild? I mean what should I do? I don't have 1K+ dollars to spend, should I just not drive it?

with that low of miles i would hope not. but the O/D "light of death" is never a good sign. you will def need to get the codes read. then go from there.

i'm just going by what i went through with my explorer. 3 trannys later..... lol

Okay, this may seem like an off the wall question - but is your speedometer working? Or, is your speedometer possibly erratic? I have a reason for asking - I had a similar problem where I started getting the same blinking OD light w/CEL in my 97 F150 4.6L, and my speedo got progressively worse until it failed completely. This happened at about 150k. The shift points were a bit aggressive until I resolved the issue.

After further investigation, the nylon gear on the speed sensor in the tranny was shredded off. Replacing the gear resovled the issue.

I went to autozone and they said they can't read transmission codes, the only codes they can read are the ones that come along with a "check engine" light.

My speedo and everything else works fine, and is on point.

If I'm going down a hill and I touch the gas my RPM's are extremely high, whenever I'm driving with a steady throttle, it seems that it's down shifting and up shifting a lot.

I called several auto shops and they haven't able to give me a solid answer.

I guess I'm just going to go to Aamco on Monday and have them look at it. This really sucks. I don't have anywhere near enough money to get this fixed, I might have to get rid of the truck if I can't get it fixed.

The first thing you will need to do is find some one that can read the TRANSMISSION trouble codes. The Blinking O/D light can be anything from a low pressure reading to a bad sensor or a bad shift solenoid.

Basically Ford uses the Blinking O/D light as kinda a CEL for the transmission. It does not necesarily mean that you need a new tranny, but that threre was a fault code thrown.

If you take it to AMMCO do not let them drop the pan and drain fluids because there is NO NEED TO YET! Those bastards are famouse for trying to sell you something that you do not need or they will tell you that they need to drop the pan for an "INSPECTION" which is a crock of :poop: because the only thing they will be able to see is the under side of the valve body and if there is any metal on the magnet.

Just have them plug in the scanner and read the codes then post them up here. Once we have the codes we can help you even farther and hopefully get the problem resolved.

Also try not do drive it much until you can get the codes read. If there is a problem with low pressure or something else you could end up causing damage that may lead to a rebuild.

Alright, thanks racenut.

I'll have them get the codes for me on monday and not have them do anything further until I hear back from you.
