Overdrive question

1999 Eddie Bauer 4x4- overdrive control button isn't working. The fuse is ok. Anyone got any ideas to check out?

Totally guessing here, but a loose or corroded connection at the button end or the transmission end, or a bad button. Switches can wear out, though I wouldn't think this one would get that much use.

is it really not shifting out of overdrive or just the light not working?
