I have the overhead console with the compass/temp gauge in my expedition. If I swapped in a overhead ecu with milage and trip info would it work out are there other pieces needed?

Had anyone done this before? The plugs appear to be the same, but before I order one from eBay id like to find out.

Don't know. But it's not very useful.

With a full tank, my distance to empty is always over 400 miles. But around 360 miles, it is at 0 miles to empty.

Does it do anything other than display distance until empty and temp/direction?

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the ecu, I'll let u guys know if it works for me.

If it doesn't I can always return the ecu so it's not the end of the world.

Thank you so much for all three info, stupid question time... I'm guessing u sending over diagrams etc means this is not a plug and play affair for those with an existing digital compass/temp display?

I have a 2001 EB and I picked up a second unit from a U-Pull-It Yard and it was plug and play but I am not sure what yours is in the XLT if it is the same then it should be a simple swap. I sent the wiring diagrams so you can compare the wiring and also check the fuses There are some pinpoint test that you can make and if you need that information I'll try to send it to you Just need your e-mail address Send it in a PM

The wiring diagrams show all that is needed Check your connector to see if all the wires are present

I see... U mentioned that u picked up an additional unit from the auto wrecker, what type of otc was your expedition originally equipped with?

The temp/compass or the full trip otc?

That makes sense. I finally had time to pull the overhead console and look at the otc connector, and my compass/temp connector only has 6 wires total running into the connector, with 6 blank terminals for a total of 12 possible connections.

the connector for the full trip otc has a total of 20 terminals with 15 used and 5 blank, which means I would have to get at least the corresponding wiring and an Eddie Bauer ecu to make this work which is obviously not worth the hassle.

If I were able to acquire the necessary parts free then I could see myself going to the trouble of doing this but at this point I have neither the time or the money to throw at this any further.

I was really hoping I would fluke out like I did with the oem fog light
Wiring, but this shatters my theory that xlts shared the same wiring harnesses as the Eddie Bauer.

Thanks bedrck for all the insight and information on this topic.
