Overlanding in Expy?

This is a Front Runner slimline 2 roof Rack with a light bar attached to the roof rack and I do use the Expy for overlanding

How did you run the wires into the cab for the light. And did you take off the factory rails or did you not have them? I have a Rhino Pioneer and it flexes a lot on the factory crossbars. I need to upgrade the bars or maybe something like this.

Wire was run down front driver side pillar and the factory rails were removed.

I was interested to know if anybody has done any overlanding in their expy's and if so, what sort of kit are you using?

Interested in air mattress for the back, roof racks, roof-top tents, mini fridges (any fit in the center console??), and any other bits of equipment to bring a bit of the 21st century with me.

Also, how in the world do you keep the doors locked when you're that close to the vehicle and have the key with you?

Do you have the part numbers for what you used to make everything work? I tried going with front runner back in June and they didn't have anything that would work for me back then.

I understand that the more common view of "off-roading" is extreme offroading. That's fine, but i don't care for that. I have long thought that any vehicle that must be trailered to the point of use is probably just a toy. I'm not paying that much for my toys.
I do want my daily driver to not be limited to pavement. My idea of offroading includes the reconning and planning necessary to avoid the places where things break. I have no interest in testing how strong my axles are, I intend to get to the other end in one piece.

I ran into a kid climbing in Yosemite and living out of his Subaru Outback. He had one of the best setups I’ve seen for sleeping in the car.
They’re called “Dirt Bags” ie climbers who spend the season living out of their cars looking for great climbing spots.

The trick was the Back Packers Cot I had never seen one before. Its a low profile cot that sits maybe 3-4 inches off the floor/ground. This gave him plenty of head room. Plus it was light and easy to flip up out of the way.

This is known as the ‘remember, you have to drive it home’ mentally and it’s served me well.
