P0420 code

Just bought a 2005 Expedition and the CEL came on a day later. Had the codes ran and got the P0420. How big of a deal is this? My county does not do emission checks. Is this something that could be harmful to me engine?

There is a video by Scotty Kilmer on YouTube that shows how to clean a catalytic converter when a code PO420 shows up. It may save buying a new one.

I feel your pain, my CEL light came on right after I bought my 2006 Exp. Same thing, catalytic converters and O2 sensors. Cost a pretty penny to fix, but I thought it was worth it. I don't like driving around with the light on. Besides, you never know, something else could trigger the light later and you wouldn't know that something else was wrong.
