My 2007 eddie bauer exp has a lot off bubbles on the front and back end of the hood. The tailgate is also "infected". Thought this was a result of salt and 5 month of hard winters here in Sweden, but this thread correct that.
I will repaint both before i give the car a full rust protection coat for the frame/underside and cavities/space in the body etc.

My '07 EB tailgate above the license plate has been bubbling as well. Haven't had the time to check the rest of the truck.

Well I called Ford yesterday 6/10 and I have not heard back from them. I really don't want to hear from them,I know it is going to Piss Me Off. This is a bulliten ya'll might want to read from Ford,so with this bulletin Ford knows there is a problem!!! Look at when this bulliten was sent out. Also look at the BS Ford blamed the blistering on

PAINT BUBBLES AROUND LIFTGATE TRIM

ISSUE
Some 2003-2006 Expedition and Navigator vehicles may experience paint bubbling or lifting around the trim area on the liftgate. This can occur when the trim part moves on the paint surface because of climate temp changes and/or owner operation. Overtime these trim parts can rub through the paint surface and cause corrosion to start developing between the aluminum gate and paint.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Paint resurfacing will be necessary to correct the paint bubbling concern.










2. Add Mylar tape to the backside edge of the following liftgate trim parts, the license plate bucket for Navigator (Figure 1) and the license lamp applique for Expedition (Figure 2). The Mylar tape will act as a friction barrier between the paint surface and the trim components.

3. Make sure that the backside of the trim pieces listed in Step 2 are clean of any contaminates. This can be done by wiping the surface with a 50% solution of isopropyl alcohol and water.

4. Apply the Mylar tape to the backside edge of the trim component. It may be necessary to trim the tape after its been applied for a clean fit.

5. After applying the Mylar tape, follow installation procedure for each part as listed in the appropriate Workshop Manual, Section 501.

Hello all! Has anyone removed the rear trim parts on the tailgate and applied the mylar tape to prevent the rubbing which apparently causes the blistering? I am thinking of doing this myself before any issues appear.

I don't know if I buy into the excuse that the trim is rubbing. I have a couple of small bubbles and none are even near the trim piece.
I firmly believe the paint problem is caused by bad prep and contamination on the panel prior to painting. Ford is well aware of this issue already and has acknowledged the problem thru Tsb's sighting the contamination as the culprit.

I was just thinking of being proactive and if in fact the trim is to blame as Ford says then I would just apply the Mylar tape and see what happens.

I am sorry to hear that the paint on some parts of your vehicle is bubbling. I can only imagine your frustration regarding this matter.

I have reviewed our resources and verified that there are no factory warranties or programs in effect on your vehicle that would provide assistance for your current concern. Please note that the paint on the vehicle is covered under the terms of the Bumper to Bumper Warranty which is 3 years/36,000 miles (whichever comes first).

With this in mind, I would suggest that you keep the receipts of any repair done on your vehicle. That way, you may be eligible to a refund should there be a recall or a Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) about the same issue in the future based on customer feedback or further engineering review of similar complaints.

Furthermore, in light of some known concerns or defects, Ford stands behind its products by issuance of recalls and CSP's. If a program is announced on a specific component, Ford will notify you by mail.

I have the same issue with my 07, as well as my Dads 06. Other common issues we've had were exhaust manifold gaskets and had to replace both front window motors. I'm a loyal ford guy and always will be, but I have to say I'm disappointed with the issues of these trucks. I hope they can get it straightened out.

Ashley, Since Ford knows there is a issue with the tailgates and hoods, why not fix the issue at the factory before a unit ever reaches the public? I can't see how haveing late model high dollar vehicles driving around with blistering paint can be good for the companies image???????

Add me back on the list. The paint on the tailgate next to the corners of the chrome trim over the license plate is bubbling up. The tailgate was repainted a few years ago by the dealer.

I have a 2011 EL ,was in for service yesterday having driver window motor replaced and maintenance ,it has 27000 mile on it has 36/36bumper to bumper and premium extended I pointed out a small bubble to the service rep and got what I thick was a side step answer,"those can be tricky to fix and cost about a 1000 you be better to put nail polish on it and just live with it" so I got online to see if there was a way to fix it and stumbled across this site seems I am not the only one with bubbles though it doesn't make me feel any better,I did like what I read about it should be covered under the bumper to bumper 36/36 warranty but I would thick the service rep would have known that and made a better recommendation than nail polish any suggestions as to how I should proceed?

My car is currently, at this very moment, in the shop to repair multiple areas with paint bubbling. I thought Ford may have given me the run-around to avoid repairing it, but the guy actually pointed out others bubbling spots, in addition to the ones that I was already aware of.

We've had so many problems with our Expedition...our radio will randomly not work at all for maybe five minutes then will just turn back on, all of the sudden. Our back seats, which are power, will also randomly not fold up/down.
