Any tips on replacing the switch? I think the shop manual assumes a higher level of knowledge about Ford products than I possess and leaves out a lot of detail. I fought with it for about 3 hours and couldn't get the parking brake assembly out. Doesn't look like I can get to the switch without pulling out the assembly.
I've tried cleaning the switch but it still only works about 1 out of 10 times.

Parking brake hasn't worked right since I've had the truck. Parking brake light didn't work at all. Several times I drove off without releasing the park brake including about 60 miles on the interstate. A year later I'm getting around to fixing the park brake assuming the shoes are worn out. Passenger side shoes had no wear and looked nearly new. Discovered the cable wasn't attached on that side. Drivers side was a little more worn but not bad. Installed new shoes and adjusted. Park brake works very well now.
I want to get the light working reliably. I've tried cleaning the switch and its better but still not 100%.
Also I seem to have a mental disorder that causes me to fixate and stress when something doesn't work and I know it's supposed to.
