I always thought that chips were for power improvement at the cost of gas milage. The best thing you could doe for gas milage that I foung was to get rid of unnecessary weight. But I hear you on the milage, I was getting 10-13 mpg

Your not going to get a great boost in fuel economy with just a "chip" or a programmer. you may get .5 mpg. In addition to them you need to do do other mods to go with it to see a real difference. You need to help it breath better with a CAI and exhaust. Realistic gains would be 1-1.5 mpg.
The 5.4 needs more fuel to better performance, a chip will most likely hurt MPG. If Ford but a diesel on the Expys that'd be a different story all together, chip'n a diesel improves MPG.

You can look into changing to an electric fan. Thats what I am looking into and so far I only found one for about $500. But I heard you get an extra couple miles to the gallon. I dont know for sure but I am sure someone who knows will answer to this.
