Im gonna ask a question that will make you guys know Im stupid but Im an old carburator mechanic and I dont know shit about these computers, but when you do and engine build up for one of these things what do you have to do to the computer if anything to make it run the modified engine??

If you radically modify the vehicle such as installing lightning supercharger, changing injectors or cam you do need a custom tune as 99 expy mentioned. I plan to do this mod also and this was recommended to me by a local tuner that can set me up.

For mild mods such as cold air intake and exhaust the computer, if it is mass air based, is very good at compensating for it and it is not necessary. But of course there is almost always more powered to be gained by custom programming as the factory must program for worst case scenarios. Imagine a 105 degree day running 87 octane with a/c running full blast towing a 5,000 pound boat in heavy traffic.

kentv6...having added the lightning supercharger on my F150 and my wife's Expy, I HIGHLY recommend do the PCV delete and just adding breathers on the valve covers.

Reason: I bought 2 L&S oil separators (supposed to be the best out there) and oil got by them. Also ended up sucking oil from the driver's valve cover. Saw no difference between having PCV and no PCV.

Just my 2 cents.

On your lightning SC swaps, how many miles were on those engines? Just thinking your excessive blow by may have been from high mileage. My stock 5.4 had a consumption problem when I bought it with 137,000 miles on it, like a quart every 500 miles. I ran valvoline max life oil which is known for cleaning up stuck piston rings, and also ran a bottle of Zmax which also helps the same way, oil consumption is almost non existent now for the last 6,000 miles. BTW the first thing I did when I realized there was a consumption problem was install my PCV oil separator, I always run one in my vehicles. During the consumption problem I had to empty the separator every other day, now it's never got oil in it.

Our oil issues had nothing to do with blow by or worn parts. The problem was that the supercharger sucked so hard, it basically pulled the oil straight from the valve cover.

In fact, at one point I pulled the intake tube to make some adjustments and oil ran was literally running past the butterflies. Did the PCV delete and no more issues.
