Plasti-dip opinions?

Age has taken a pretty big toll on my trucks paint...The clear coat is coming off of my drivers fender, rust is on my roof, and scratches are everywhere from mud, branches, rocks and crazy ex's. (just kidding on that last one).
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone on this forum has plastidipped their entire rig? If someone has:
was it professionally done? Or did you do it yourself?
What did it cost, what was the method, and how much was used?
I get mixed opinions on plastic dip, but I wanna get some from people with Expeditions (preferably 1st gens).

I plastidipped my fender flares and trim over a year ago and they still look brand new!
Plastidip is a great product. There are many Youtube vids of folks dipping their entire car.
You can always go redneck and use bedliner on your on your body.

I've actually thought about rhino-lining the entire thing, but I think it's a Lil too much for my taste. I've seen videos from dipyourcar.com on YouTube, and that's what got me into the idea. I feel like it would take a LOT of dip though, and a ton of maintenance..

Look up JTkustoms, he had a show truck that he did the whole thing with plastidip. He isn't active anymore but I have heard as long as you use a sufficient amount, it's quite durable. You can look at dipyourcar.com for more info and bulk spray kits.

I see a lot of people doing Plasti-dip on other forums and when done right I think it looks pretty good. I needed paint and wanted to do something different. I ended up having Line-X do my entire truck and couldn't be happier.

That looks great!! How much did it all cost?
Plastidip or liner, I've always liked the look they give. I guess it all just weighs on how much each job costs, and how much maintenance is required for up-keep. I like plastidip because it's changeable. Hell, I could go white for winter then peel and change it black for summer if I wanted. I think the only downside would be rocks, branches, and mud from trails. Bed liner seems more durable with less maintenance.

they make a lot of colors and finishes...so don't feel that u have to settle for matte...they have gloss...satin...matte...changing colors...pearls...everything

That looks awesome. I was thinking about doing that to mine. I feel better about it now.

Back on topic I plastidipped my hood and rear hatch on my Soul and it lasted over a year when I took it off. It did start peeling on the handle but the hood and rest of the hatch looked as new when I removed it. If I can remember I will throw up pics of it when I get to my PC.

Since you have experience with the stuff, (looks good on the Kia by the way) how would you rate plastidips durability with solid objects, like rocks or branches? I'm off road quite a bit, and don't feel like having to re-spray after getting back from a trail.

I've plastidipped my Expedition trim and wheels, my Jeeps grill, wheels and rockers, and my sons Jeep's hood and wheels... and a bunch of stuff on the old FX4.... Stuff holds up fantastic... power washes.. mud baths.. Canadian weather....The only thing I have bad to say about it is.... don't ever get polish on it...... I accidentally got some on the wheel trim while I was polishing the truck and I can't get it off to save my life. Here's my projects I've done...

My wife says I should be a salesman for the stuff because everyone in town comes to me asking about it....

I had no idea that stuff if that strong! 5 years is the longest I've heard of it staying! Did you use a professional Kit? Or just the spray cans?

Just the spray cans... 4 coats... I peeled the rims of recently just cuz I wanted to go back to chrome for a while... that's the beauty of the stuff.. But I think I'll respray them before the snow comes again...

Thanks for the input. Comparing prices, I think I'm going to go the Dip route, instead of LineX. The prices are better, and if I F**k up on something, I can always peel it off and restart!

I dipped the racecar. It took just less than 2 gallons with the HVLP gun you can buy from DYC (Dipyourcar.com).

Love it so far and I have considered dipping the Expy black (because you can buy touch up aerosol plastidip at WM in black and white).











I also added the DIP COAT. Very important! Makes it less "grippy" in terms of feeling and more resistance to the world while still being able to peel off.

Thanks, I paid $3500 that included pulling glass, weather strip, and doing the door jambs. I needed to get it painted and the estimates I got for a paint job was about $4000. so I didn't think $3500 was to bad for the Line-X. And it has a nationwide lifetime warranty.

$3500 doesn't sound bad at all with all that they did and it looks so much more badass than just a paint job.

if u spray yourself...couple hundred dollars...guy I know that does this all over my area charges MAX $1500 and does a GREAT job to include 2-tone job and 2-tone wheels...also the different finishes and pearl paints that color shift...doing mine for $800...he preps and cleans the surface for every car he does as if he was going to paint the car...says that's why his jobs come out with quality vs the others in the area...
