Anybody know what this sad-looking thing is? Looks suspicious as hell IF it's part of the vacuum/PCV system... but can't see the usual tag with a part number

2012 Navigator 5.4l (same 3rd gen Expy V8 under hood).... Still chasing presumed vacuum leaks

Axle differential breather tube?

...Maybe? Idfk

What's it called in Motorcraft-ese terminology, though, or better yet a part number?

PS and is this something that can cause oddness on shifts and/or weird engage-ey noises from the 4wd?

Just not seeing anything by that name... "transfer case vent hose", maybe?

Here you go. Rear is more commonly messed with when the rear ended is submerged in water. Rear diff/axle breather tube

Breather tube for the front diff, won't cause shifting issues or axle engagement issues, will cause oil leaks if it gets plugged which causes a pressure build up which spews the oil out the weakest point. Usually axle seal or pinion seal.
