I just put in a Clarion NX501 head unit. When I started the vehicle the sub would pop. After talking to a lot of people I found out that the head unit is 12 volts and the Ford amp is 5 volts which made it pop. If you put a regulator form the head unit blue/white on the input prong, a ground on the center prong and the two blue/white wires on the out put prong the popping goes away. I had to solder the wires on the regulator which I had never done (15 dollar kit from Home Depot).

I am no expert and putting in the new unit took 3 days of stress but looking back it was not that hard. I bought the head unit from amazon and the hook up parts from cruchfield which gave me access to tech support (best move I could have made). I just wanted to share the info. Hopefully this will help someone else.

sounds like a complex solution for when I had to put resistors in line of the amp turn on of my aftermarket head unit to reduce the pop. It did not completely get rid of the pop - but did soften it. I am certain this info will be helpful to others - the turn on pop was very irritating. I may have read your post completely wrong though, but congrats on getting it fixed.

Crutchfield recommends that 12V to 5V regulator when purchasing your unit (on-line), so for anyone replacing their unit, be sure to get one. I'm getting a new JVC that is coming in today. Unfortunately, they are back-ordered for this regulator and the radio will have to sit there until this comes in.
