Ford just updated the 3.5 EcoBoost and 5.0 V8 for the 2021 F-150. The 3.5 gets a new optional hybrid motor and the 5.0 now features cylinder deactivation and a 4 cylinder mode. Both have recieved new boosted power figures for the new generation trucks. New figures are:

5.0 - - 400 horsepower/410 lb ft
3.5 - - 400 horsepower/500 lb ft

The 2.7 EcoBoost remains at 325 horsepower and the 3.3 remains at 290 horsepower so no changes there. Also I think the PowerBoost Hybrid would be a nice package for the Expedition. Ford should offer the Hybrid on the V8 in the future. Ahem Mustang!!!! The PowerBoost Hybrid is rated at 570 lb ft, insane torque.

These are base ratings. If you option the Bigger EcoBoost or the V8 on a basic bare bones XL work truck you get 400 horsepower. I thought that’s pretty impressive.

You won’t get the hybrid in the 4th gen Expedition. Take a close look at the payload numbers on the 3.5L and the 3.5L hybrid... that’s about 1000lbs of batteries. The 4th gen Expedition suspension doesn’t support another 1000lbs of equipment. It does imply very good things for the gen V as Ford will want to design the gen V for that powertrain, even if it’s limited to the Lincoln...

It took four years for Ford to put the 3.5 Ecoboost in the Expedition after the F150 got it. I hope the hybrid doesn't take that long. Who am I kidding...I'm not buying it anyway. When the new one comes out, I'll probably pick up a 2019 or 2020 for 50% off MSRP. But I do love seeing technology advance.

I want to see the battery of...batteries. Part of that'd be the electric motor, too, of course. Doesn't change the fact that it is a shit ton of added weight w/that option. I bet it rides nice!

Rumors of a new updated 10R80, 10R140 and a possible 10R100. Have been floating around on other forums.

Honestly I would move from a v6 Ecoboost to a V8 any day. Godzilla V8 if available.

As much as I’m a fan of it I don’t think we will see the new 7.3 “big block” in a half ton, it’s a heavy duty brute made for torture that these trucks will never see. And it’s thirstier. It uses the same style piston rings as the turbocharged engines use and also has a forged steel crank with forged pistons. Basically Ford made the 7.3 big in displacement, lower compression ratio, forged internals and forced induction grade parts with no actual forced induction. Recipe for Toyota level longevity lol. I will say I never thought we’d see the day a big block V8 gets 15+ MPG, but that’s what owners of them are reporting. Which is very impressive.
