I have an 05 expy with 86000 miles. It has been running fine. I get to work run some errends and park it for the nite. (It was raining when I was out) Next morning I turn key and it just cranks and does not fire. After reading a bunch of post I can see it is not safe to assume right away that its the fuel pump. What should I check first? I am checking that mod above spare tire today. I see a few people talking about a relay . Where would this be located ? If fuel filter is clogged would it prevent the fuel pump from running? When I turn the key I hear something humming at the fire wall behind the air filter then the gas gauge moves but dont hear ful pump. I checked fuse #12 and it is fine. I also checked the inertia switch. Any suggestions on what order to go in troubleshooting and how to pinpoint problem and if it is indeed the fuel system would be grateful. Where is fuel filter located? Thanks in advance

If you hear humming, then the pump is priming, at least to some degree. What happens if you turn the key to on, leave for a couple seconds, turn off, then turn back to on, then crank?

Don't remember exactly, but I do think the position of the fuel filter changed for 05-06. I think you also have to have the fuel line tool, to take off the clips, since those appear to be a hassle. For the 03-04, it along the driver side frame rail, behind a cover. Just follow the gas lines out of the tank, and you should end up at the filter.

Also, whenever you can, check the module above the spare. You 05-06 guys got lucky with that one :p

Thanks for the info. What I believe I am hearing is the fuel injectors trying to prime. What I am not hearing is the fuel pump kicking on. I layed under truck while someone else turned the key and there is nothing coming from fuel tank. What I am hearing is coming from under the hood. I am going to check that relay today where spare tire is. It seems this is a common problem. Will keep updated.

Update. I replaced the fuel filter because it was due. Dont think that is the problem anyway. I got the fuel pump driver module out and it was coroded with 2 holes in it. After searching local dealerships I was able to locate 1 . The part is on a national backorder from Ford and they say it is not going to be produced till July 11. I was told they are changing the material that it is built on and the issues in Japan are holding up production. So much for American Made. LOL. I have my fingers crossed that this part will resolve the issue.

The Little black Box strikes again

So thanks to this forum I was able to find the problem. It was the Fuel pump moduel behind the tire. It was corroded just like everyone elses and the board was fried. It took some time to find the part as it is on backorder. The dealer said they can not keep them in stock. If you have a expedition or 150 I would take the time to check it so you dont get stranded. It is easy to locate and take off only 2 screws holding it on. Thanks again for all the information. This is now one of my favorite sites for my truck. Have good day
